GLS supported an effort performed for the Smithsonian Institution and various commercial clients. GLS originally developed an interactive display and mapping system as a rapid prototype/demonstration effort. GLS created a freestanding, transportable, user-friendly display system. The compact (7'x9') display includes a user activated, touch screen mapping device routed to a computer software system that displays map-sensitive information to the user. The system can then perform as a marketing kiosk, an educational display, or an interactive routing and information system for visitors. The system is redundant, allows for multiple users, and offers ease of maintenance and upgrade with replaceable software modules. GLS has since refined and ruggedized the interactive display system. It is now supporting multiple applications within Government organizations, academic institutions, and private associations. GLS continues to:
- Provide the maintenance and operation of existing systems.
- Define new requirements and technical designs to provide the system to additional commercial users.
- Create customized graphics displays.
- Provide for overall design of the system, management of the effort, testing, and installation at user sites, including reconfiguration and relocation as necessary.
- Maintain an inventory control log, accomplishing property management of all the component parts including the ADPE and software modules.
- Troubleshoot the system if errors or client-required changes are necessary.
- Accomplish instructional sessions to client users, performing on-site tutorials on procedures for start up, operation, display, and removal.
